The FINLAM project is a collaborative endeavor bringing together three distinguished partners, each contributing unique expertise to advance the field of multimodal information extraction in cultural heritage institutions.

LITIS Laboratory

The Laboratoire d’Informatique, de Traitement de l’Information et des Systèmes (LITIS) is a renowned public research laboratory affiliated with the University of Rouen Normandy, the University of Le Havre Normandy, and INSA Rouen Normandy. LITIS focuses on various research domains, including information access, biomedical information processing, and ambient intelligence.  

Within FINLAM, LITIS contributes its extensive research capabilities in document analysis and pattern recognition. The laboratory’s experience in developing multimodal models and machine learning algorithms is instrumental in creating innovative solutions for information extraction from digitized documents, thereby enhancing the project’s scientific foundation.

Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF)

The Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) serves as the national repository for all publications in France, boasting a collection that spans over 40 million documents accumulated over five centuries. Its mission encompasses the collection, cataloging, preservation, and dissemination of the nation’s documentary heritage, ensuring accessibility to the widest possible audience. The BnF also actively engages in national and international collaborations to promote cultural and scientific exchange.  

Within the FINLAM project, the BnF provides invaluable access to its extensive and diverse collections of digitized documents. The institution’s expertise in archival preservation and its commitment to innovation play a crucial role in developing and evaluating new methodologies for information extraction and semantic indexing in the realm of cultural heritage.

TEKLIA

TEKLIA is a forward-thinking software company specializing in automatic document processing through the application of artificial intelligence. Their flagship product, Arkindex, transcends traditional document management systems by offering adaptable solutions tailored to specific business needs. TEKLIA’s suite of services includes image analysis, recognition of both handwritten and printed text, text segmentation, and document classification and indexing.  

In the context of FINLAM, TEKLIA’s role is pivotal in developing and deploying advanced AI-driven tools for document analysis. Their expertise ensures the practical implementation of multimodal models, facilitating the transformation of complex historical documents into structured, searchable, and accessible digital formats.
